I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting (with high honors) from University of Florida, and I loved being a “Gator” so much, that I stayed for an additional three years to obtain my Juris Doctorate (also with high honors) from University of Florida College of Law, where I was a member of Law Review and Order of the Coif. This unique combination of a solid financial background, coupled with an extensive and diverse legal career, has positioned me to represent a broad range of clients in complex business and legal matters.
I began my career at one of the largest and most prestigious law firms in Florida. After gaining an extensive knowledge in construction law, construction defects, Florida lien law, and financial and legal issues concerning new development projects, I became in-house counsel to a multi-million-dollar construction/development company, overseeing all legal issues concerning contracts, construction, development, property damage, insurance, employment, and human resources.
I returned to private practice in 2007, and due to my industry experience, began handling complex litigation matters, including insurance defense, construction defects, construction liens, condominium and HOA disputes, employment disputes, non-competition agreements, partner/owner separations, landlord/tenant issues, intellectual property and licensing disputes, and other multifaceted contract matters.
Recognizing that one of my greatest strengths was my ability to see the “big picture,” I became a Supreme Court certified county and circuit court mediator in 2003. In the years that followed, I have successfully mediated a diverse and extensive number of cases, ranging from a contentious dispute involving a dog bite, a complex partner dispute that settled with an apology, and a million-dollar property dispute.
My experience as in-house counsel for over a decade gives me more perspective and empathy than most mediators, because I have quite literally walked in your shoes during the many years that I had to make strategic business decisions in order to resolve a dispute. I understand all too well the monetary and time constraints that litigation imposes on a person or business, having experienced it first-hand. My business and accounting background has proven invaluable in my mediation practice, as I am readily able to cut to the chase and assess the financial consequences of protracted litigation. As your mediator, I bring this extensive basket of skills to the table in order to discuss and explore settlement possibilities beyond the norm.
